Faculty council

The Faculty Council consists of 16 members, nine of whom are professors, three academic staff, one other staff member and three students. In addition, there is the Equal Opportunities Officer. She/He is a voting member of the faculty council. The term of office of the faculty council is three years. The term of office of the student members of the faculty council is one year.

Academic affairs committees

The academic affairs committee performs advisory tasks that are important for proper teaching and study operations. The results of the commission have a recommending character for the faculty council, which makes a decision on the implementation.
The chair of each committee is the dean of studies, Prof. Dr. Thorsten Schneider.

  • Development of study and examination regulations
  • Adaptation of study documents to changed framework conditions
  • Planning the implementation of the teaching evaluation
  • Evaluation of the results of the teaching evaluation

Student Representatives

The student representative commitees are the student representatives at the institutes. They delegate members to faculty and institute committees. They also organize student events.
The FSR Sociology also represents the interests of the M.A. European Studies.

The fields of activity of the student councils according to Saxon University law are*:

  • Awareness of the internal political, social and cultural interests of the students,
  • Participation in evaluation procedures,
  • Support of the economic and social self-help of students,
  • Support of students during their studies,
  • Promotion of student sports without regardless of the responsibility of the university,
  • Maintaining regional, national and international student relationships and promoting student mobility,
  • Promotion of political education and civic responsibility of students.

Graduate Commission

The Graduate Commission is the university’s central decision-making body for all structural issues related to graduate studies.

According to §42 and 43 SächsHG, the Graduate Committee decides in particular on:

  • Satisfaction of the entry requirements and admission to graduate studies
  • Awarding of scholarships, in particular state scholarships and scholarships to promote re-entry into scientific work
  • Evidence of achievements and tutorials to be provided in graduate studies
  • Continuation of funding after the end of the first funding period, extension of funding in exceptional cases and revocation of approved funding
  • Granting of special benefits.
