Institute Council

The Institute Council is the decision-making and coordination body of the Institute. In its regular meetings, it deals with all current internal and external issues. In total, the Institute Council consists of eleven members.

The Institute Council consists of eleven members of the Institute. It is composed of representatives of all relevant university groups at the Institute. The members are elected once a year. The term of office is twelve months. The members are six university teachers, two academic staff members, one other staff member and two students.

The Institute Council usually meets every two weeks during the lecture period in room 4.20 of the Institute building. This semester, the meetings will take place on the following dates:

The tasks, responsibilities and composition of the Institute Council are defined by the Institute Order.

Director

The Executive Director represents the interests of the Institute externally. The Director is elected by the Institute Council once a year from among the members of the Institute Council. The term of office is twelve months.

The Executive Director performs a variety of tasks for the Institute. These include:

  • Management of the business of the institute
  • Management of the Institute’s budget
  • Information of the Institute Council regarding all institute affairs
  • Implementation of decisions of the Institute Council
  • Formulation of proposals for institute-relevant questions of teaching, research, institute structure, institute profile, and external image
  • Representing the Institute vis-à-vis other bodies, such as the Dean’s Office of the Faculty or the Rector’s Office

Committees

In addition to the Institute Council, the audit committees and study commissions are a relevant part of the committee structure at the Institute of Communication and Media Studies.

Audit Committees

The audit committees are responsible for all matters related to examinations and the recognition of academic achievements in a degree programme. The respective audit committee deals with student complaints or objections to the examination procedure. It is also obliged to report regularly to the faculty on the development of study times and examination results.

At the Institute of Communication and Media Studies there are three audit committees to cover the various degrees. Each committee has a chairperson and several members. The members consist of representatives of the university teachers, academic staff and students.

Study Commissions

The Study Commissions are appointed by the Faculty Council. Their tasks include the following:

  • Development of study and examination regulations
  • Adaptation of study documents to changed framework conditions
  • Planning the implementation of the teaching evaluation
  • Evaluating the results of the teaching evaluation
  • Consulting on problems and opportunities for teaching improvements
