The ECM 2025/26 focuses on three central challenges, all examined through the lens of intergenerational diversity:
- Values-based corporate positioning – how companies use their values as living, continuously negotiated guiding principles.
- Strategic talent management – how communication departments attract, retain, and develop top communication talent.
- Coaching as a strategic leadership imperative – why communication leaders increasingly act as strategic coaches to strengthen organisational resilience.
Amid profound demographic shifts, digitalisation, and rising societal expectations, the study shows how five generations with differing values and work styles interact within organisations — and how communication leaders can harness this diversity productively. The report highlights that successful communication goes far beyond traditional message control, increasingly building on co-creation, dialogue, and collaboration across generations.
The ECM is conducted by six internationally renowned communication scholars who ensure the highest scientific standards: Ralph Tench (United Kingdom), Ángeles Moreno (Spain), Stefania Romenti (Italy), Alexander Buhmann (Norway), Aurélie Laborde (France), and Ansgar Zerfaß (Germany). The study is organised within EUPRERA and supported by leading European communication networks.
