A webinar was hosted by The Plank Center in early June 2021 to explore the results of the North American Communication Monitor (NACM) and share insights from the researchers.

The North American Communication Monitor 2020/21 provides insights into the status quo and trends in strategic communications and public relations practices in the U.S. and Canada. 1,020 communications managers were surveyed in the study, organized and funded by The Plank Center for Leadership in Public Relations at the University of Alabama, USA. The study was conducted by professors Juan Meng and Bryan H. Reber, University of Georgia; Bruce K. Berger and Karla K. Gower, University of Alabama; and Ansgar Zerfass, University of Leipzig, Germany. The study examined several topics, including COVID-19 and communications professionals' responses, ethical challenges and resources for communications professionals, cybersecurity and communications, gender equity in the profession, strategic issues and communications channels, skills development, salaries, and characteristics of excellent communications departments. The comprehensive findings report is available online.
