Abstract

Charlotte Knorr (PhD) is a research associate in the Department for Media and Communication Studies (Leipzig University). Her research focus is on Big Data studies, data scandals/whistleblowers, and journalistic processes of thematization. Since April 2021, she has been working with Christian Pentzold in the Framing Big Data research project. There, she studies the discursive framing of datafied processes both in professional communicative forms and user-generated content. Additionally, Charlotte is a trained mediator with a focus on Transformative Mediation for group disputes and conflicts. In her dissertation, Charlotte Knorr she has been researching the thematization and commentary of conflicts, crises, and scandals in press- and user-generated content. Hereby, she examined the socio-technical affordances of journalistic thematization. To this end, she developed a social science and humanities artifact analysis for thematization processes in online media.

Charlotte Knorr (PhD) is a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Communication and Media Studies in the field of crisis communication and science journalism.

Her work focuses on the topics of crisis and peace research and on the journalistic communication of scientific findings to clarify conflict issues and decisions. In research projects, she investigates how scientific information and findings on conflict and crisis issues are discussed, depicted and framed in digital media environments.

Another focus is on strengthening previously marginalised voices in the conflict in order to contribute to sustainable conflict transformation. Text aggregates such as press releases, interviews, essays, reports, readings and political poetry are methodically examined for manual and automated content as well as artefact analyses.

Since April 2021, she has been working together with Christian Pentzold in the research project Framing Big Data, investigating the discursive framing of data-based processes in both professional forms of communication and user-generated content with the help of manual and semi-automated research methods (Digital Humanities).

Since 2013 I have been given methodological seminars on content analysis, especially in the field of online communication. First, I taught as a tutor during my master's degree, then I gave seminars for the online content analysis M.A., introductory content analysis seminars for B.A. and M.A..

Since 2018, my teaching focus has been on theory and research seminars on online conflict. Here, the focus is on examining power dynamics as well as the marginalization of individual voices in conflict through media technologies.

Additionally, in my network analytic seminars, I share insights from political mobilization research in social movements and political conflicts (Theories M.A. seminars and Network Research B.A. research seminars since 2018).

Especially in the field of conflict moderation and mediation, I give workshops on understanding online conflicts and empowering marginalized actors:inside. I have been a lecturer for the Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Leipzig, the School for Applied Economic and Technology (HTWK) as well as for the Center for Development Communication EC4SC at the University of Leipzig.
