As PhD-student at the chaif of methodology, the focus of my teaching lies with basic and advanced methods of empirical social scientific research. I am teaching as part of two modules:

Die Vermittlung dieser Inhalte teilt sich auf 2 Module auf:

  • Seminar 'Applied Empirical Research' (B.A.): The aim of this module is to give students practical insights into actual social science research through participation in varying projects.

  • Regression Analysis (M.A.): The aim of this module is a in-depth look at regression analysis. Basic concepts are introduced for simple OLS-regression and then generalized.

  • Regression analysis (winter term 2022/23)

This module is about an in-depth study of the methods of regression analysis. Even in a time when more and more modern methods of data analysis are becoming popular, regression analysis is still a kind of standard tool in social science data analysis. Accordingly, a good understanding is essential and also provides a good basis for understanding more complex procedures. The course covers the basics of the OLS procedure, GLMs and multilevel models.

  • Seminar 'Applied empirical research' (summer term 2023)

The aim of this module is to design an empirical research project together with the students. The research question and the rough framework (e.g. survey form and type of sampling) are predetermined, but all other aspects, such as selection of questions and design of the survey instrument, are worked out together with the students. The topic of this year's research seminar is attitudes towards different groups of refugees in Germany.

  • Seminar 'Applied empirical research' (winter term 2023/24)

In the course of this module, students answer the questions they have worked out in the first part on the basis of the collected data. The content is a short repetition of statistical basics, as well as a more in-depth study of advanced methods. The aim of the module is that the students work independently on data analysis and that the lecturers help them with questions.
