Ist seit 2011 Professor für Internationale Beziehungen, speziell Internationale Politische Ökonomie, an der Fakultät für Internationale, Politische und Urbane Studien der Universidad del Rosario in Bogotá, Kolumbien. Zwischen September 2019 und Dezember 2020 verbrachte er einen längeren Gastaufenthalt am Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Universität Leipzig, welcher auch Lehraufträge am Lehrstuhl für Internationale Beziehungen und transnationale Politik umfasste.
Auf dem Gebiet der Internationalen Politischen Ökonomie gilt sein spezielles Interesse den globalen Finanzbeziehungen mit einem geographischen Schwerpunkt auf Lateinamerika sowie den politischen und wirtschaftlichen Beziehungen zwischen China und Lateinamerika.
