Dr Luisa Winkler has received the dissertation prize PR and Organisational Communication 2020/21 for her outstanding dissertation "Genese und Spezifik der Kommunikation mittelständischer Unternehmen: Fallbasierte Analyse der Organisationskommunikation im industriellen Mittelstand", which is awarded by the specialist group PR / Organisational Communication of the Deutschen Gesellschaft für Publizistik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft e. V. (DGPuK) in cooperation with the publishing house Springer VS.
The jury's statement reads: "Die Arbeit von Luisa Winkler entfaltet ein hohes innovatives Potenzial, sowohl thematisch als auch theoretisch und methodisch. Erstens ist die Arbeit relevant, da sie mit der Kommunikation mittelständischer Unternehmen ein bislang kaum erforschtes Themenfeld erschließt. Zweitens sind mit der CCO-Perspektive bislang vor allem eher periphere Themen beschrieben worden. Luisa Winkler hat in ihrer Arbeit als eine der ersten die CCO-Perspektive sehr überzeugend für einen zentralen Aspekt der Organisationskommunikation und auch des strategischen Kommunikationsmanagements angewandt und damit den Mehrwert der Perspektive aufgezeigt. Drittens ist das qualitative methodische Vorgehen vielseitig und vorbildlich als Beispiel für die Anwendung der CCO-Perspektive."
The dissertation was written at the Chair of Strategic Communication at the University of Leipzig under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ansgar Zerfaß; it was completed in July 2019. The second examiner was Prof. Dr. Patrick Donges. It was made possible by a doctoral scholarship from Fink & Fuchs AG, Wiesbaden, under the mentorship of Stephan Fink. The book version of the study was published in 2020 under the title "Organisationskommunikation im Mittelstand".
The award for the best dissertation in the German-speaking world has been awarded by the professional society every two years since 2013. Previous winners were Prof. Dr. Swaran Sandhu for his dissertation "Public Relations und Legitimität: Der Beitrag des organisationalen Neo-Institutionalismus für die PR-Forschung" and Prof. Dr. Peter Winkler for his dissertation entitled "Eine PR der nächsten Gesellschaft. Ambivalenzen einer Disziplin im Wandel". In 2017/18, the prize was not awarded. The current jury consists of: Prof. Dr. Olaf Hoffjann (Bamberg), Prof. Dr. Ulrike Röttger (Münster), Prof. Dr. Jens Seiffert-Brockmann (Vienna), Jun.-Prof. Dr. Helena Stehle (Münster) and Prof. Dr. Kerstin Thummes (Greifswald).
