Multimedia Stories in Media Houses in the USA and Germany in Changing Times: Characteristics of Development and Perspectives for the Future

Within the framework of a dissertation project, an international stocktaking of journalistic multimedia stories is being sought with reference to digital trends (such as augmented reality, news games, robots, drones, Big Data). A preceding systematizing literature study of international publications on the topic of digital storytelling forms the basis for a subsequent quantitative content analysis of German and US-American multimedia stories. The goal is to identify clusters that will be discussed and classified by experts from the field in a third step.

Storytelling in journalistic podcasts, on Instagram and in Internet memes.

Another research focus is on the journalistic use of new formats and platforms, such as the production of journalistic podcasts or various strategies of Instagram use by media companies. In addition, internet memes as multimodal narrative formats are exploratively analyzed in an interdisciplinary and international research team.

Photojournalism using the example of World Press Photo.

In qualitative as well as quantitative studies, prize winners and their award-winning photos of the World Press Photo Contest are analyzed.
