BACHELOR

The bachelor's degree is the first academic degree and the first professional qualification awarded by a university. The bachelor's programme extends over six semesters (three years) and concludes with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree.

Master

The bachelor's degree can be followed by a master's degree with a further university degree qualifying for a profession.
A master's programme in Philosophy usually extends over four semesters (two years) and concludes with the academic degree Master of Arts (MA).

State Examination

The study programme "Ethics/Philosophy for the Teaching Profession at Primary Schools - First State Examination" is designed to prepare students for professional activities as teachers.

The study programme "Ethics/Philosophy for the Teaching Profession in Special Education - First State Examination" is designed to prepare students for professional activities as teachers.

The study programme "Ethics/Philosophy for the Teaching Profession at Secondary Schools - First State Examination" is designed to prepare students for professional activities as teachers.

The study programme "Ethics/Philosophy for the Teaching Profession at High Schools - First State Examination" is designed to prepare students for professional activities as teachers.

Doctorate

Requirements for admission

  • Master's, Magister or Diplom degree with at least the grade "good".
  • No previous doctoral procedure aiming at the same doctoral degree that has been definitively failed or is dormant.

The admission to the doctoral list embodies the first partial step towards a successful doctorate and should be carefully considered. In addition to the formal matters you need to take into account and the considerations regarding the financial security of your doctoral project, you should approach a possible supervisor with a well thought-out topic proposal supported by an exposé.

Elective Subjects

Students who successfully apply for a Bachelor of Arts degree programme at Leipzig University (except B.A. Sports Science and B.A. Literary Writing) may take up to two electives. The electives offered at the institute are Philosophy and Ethics.

The elective can be combined with B.A. programmes in the humanities and social sciences that include an elective of 60 credit points. The elective cannot be studied concurrently with the B.A. Philosophy. Furthermore, this elective cannot be combined with the elective Ethics.
