Junior Professorship for Communication and Media Change
Current
Profile
The junior professorship focusses on journalism, media policy and political communication from a long-term historical perspective. Current research focusses on counter-publics in political and media change.
The teaching focus of the junior professorship is on the transformation of the public sphere, journalism and structures of the media system from the 19th century to the recent past. The courses illustrate the interactions between media and social change using the example of individual upheavals as well as from an overarching long-term perspective and categorise the content with a reflection on critical public sphere and media theories. The research-orientated teaching of the junior professorship also introduces students to the application of qualitative social science methods to questions of communication history.
Team
In addition to Junior Professor Niklas Venema, the team currently consists of two project members and a student assistant. The junior professorship is also supported by the Communication Science secretariat.
