Institute Council
The institute council is the decision-making and coordinating body of the institute. In its regular meetings, it deals with all current internal and external topics. The Institute Council consists of eleven members in total.
The institute council consists of eleven members of the institute. It is made up of representatives from all relevant university groups at the institute. The members are elected once a year. The term of office is twelve months. The members include six university lecturers, two academic employees, one other employee and two students.

Director
The executive director represents the institute's interests to the outside world. The Institute Council elects him or her once a year from among the Institute members. The term of office is twelve months.
The managing director takes on a number of tasks for the institute. These tasks include:
- Management of the institute's business
- Management of the institute budget
- Information from the institute council regarding all institute matters
- Implementation of decisions of the institute council
- Formulation of suggestions for institute-relevant questions of teaching, research, institute structure, institute profile, and external presentation
- Representation of the institute vis-à-vis other bodies, such as the dean's office of the faculty or the rector's office
Committees
In addition to the institute council, the examination committees and study commissions are a relevant part of the committee structure at the Institute for Communication and Media Studies.
